ABOUT SUNRISE CENTER NORTH

Sunrise Center Therapeutic Riding Program was originated in 1997 and is still located in St. Anne, IL. This original location serves the greater Kankakee area. Realizing Sunrise Center was geographically limited and in need of a second location, Sunrise Center North Therapeutic Riding Program was established in Coal City, IL in late 2006. In 2015 we moved to Ellis House Equestrian Center located in Minooka, IL. Sunrise Center North was created to provide services for the greater Will/Grundy County area. Currently, Sunrise Center North also has riders from Kendall and Dupage counties.

Sunrise Center North started with two borrowed horses and operated its program by boarding these horses at a local stable. Since then, through purchases and donations, we have come to own three horses.

Our instructors are certified and operate under the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.), formerly the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).

Sunrise Center North provides services to 20 to 40 different special needs riders each year, totaling 325 to 475 lesson-hours each year. The special needs population has very limited activities that they can participate in and we are very happy to offer our services to any individual or organization that will benefit from therapeutic riding.

Our instructors and volunteers look forward to working with each rider to achieve his/her individual goals. We accomplish this by customizing lesson plans which cater to the rider's own needs.

DONATE

Sunrise Center North is always looking for donations.  Any money you donate goes to caring for our horses, buying items to help better the program, and lower the cost for our riders with disabilities and special needs. We greatly appreciate any and all donations.  Please make check out to:
